What we buy as scrap gold

We define scrap gold as anything no longer wearable in its current form, or without a legible purity mark, but still holding real metal value. Items most commonly brought to us:

• Single earrings without a pair, clasps without a chain, broken links.
• Broken, bent, or otherwise damaged jewelry — rings, bracelets, pendants.
• Items with a completely worn or illegible hallmark.
• Old, no-longer-worn wedding bands, signet rings, cufflinks.
• Leftovers from jewelry repairs — filings, fragments, pieces cut off during resizing.

We don't accept dental gold (crowns, bridges) — we buy jewelry and jewelry items only.

Regardless of condition, as long as the purity can be reliably determined (on-site, or via the touchstone method), we can value it.

What we don't buy

We don't value gold-plated items (a thin layer of gold on another metal) as scrap — that isn't scrap gold, and their metal value is negligible. Jewelry set with stones (diamonds, precious or semi-precious stones) needs a separate valuation — see our jewelry buying page. We don't accept industrial scrap or gold-plated electronics (contacts, boards) — we buy jewelry-grade scrap only.

How we determine purity when there's no hallmark

A large share of the scrap gold we receive has no legible hallmark — worn away over years of wear, deliberately removed, or simply never marked (common with older foreign-made jewelry). In such cases we determine purity using the touchstone method with acid reagents — the same method used to verify every piece of gold we buy (see "How we verify gold authenticity" on the main gold buying page). The whole process happens in front of you and usually takes a few minutes. If the result is inconclusive (e.g., a multi-metal alloy), we explain this before quoting a price — we don't lower it "just in case" without explanation.

Why scrap gold is still valuable metal

Many people assume that a gold item without a clasp, or a damaged ring, "isn't worth anything anymore" — that's a mistake. Gold's value comes from its pure metal content, not whether the item is wearable. Even a single broken piece goes on to be melted and refined after purchase — for that process, the item's condition doesn't matter, only weight and purity do. That's why an honest buyer values scrap exactly as transparently as jewelry in perfect condition — using the same formula: weight × purity/1000 × current NBP rate × our buying coefficient. The only difference from jewelry in good condition: with scrap, purity is sometimes harder to determine at a glance, hence the extra verification step described above.

How much is scrap gold worth — how we calculate the price

Scrap gold is priced exactly the same way as jewelry in good condition: Price = weight (g) × purity/1000 × current gold rate (PLN/g per NBP) × our buying coefficient.

Example: you bring a single earring with no pair, weighing 1.5 g, 585 purity (determined on-site via the touchstone method). At a gold rate (purity 1000) of around 520 PLN/g, the pure gold value is 1.5 × 0.585 × 520 ≈ 456 PLN. You'll get the exact offer (after our buying coefficient) during a free on-site valuation — this example only shows the calculation mechanics, not a guaranteed price.

The buying coefficient for scrap may differ slightly from fully intact jewelry — we factor in the extra verification time for items without a legible purity mark. We always explain the calculation before you decide.
